Welcome to the
Spring Season at the Vermont State House
In 1915, Vermont legislators, who were mostly farmers, extended the legislative session through the winter. To entertain themselves during these long cold months they used the House chamber for weekly sing-alongs, lectures, theater performances, and even a circus with ponies and an elephant in 1947. This tradition has come down today as Farmers’ Night and has provided a warmth of entertainment for lawmakers and community members alike. Friends of the Vermont State House member Rick McMahan has faithfully recorded every one of the programs we’ve sponsored. And now starting from the kickoff of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil to last month’s storytelling, they can be enjoyed again!
Thank you Rick!
